Student and Professional Mentoring Program
Florida is a great place for students and professionals interested in the parks, recreation and leisure services field. FRPA works to foster relationships with students to support their goals of being a profesional in the field.
Purpose
The Florida Recreation and Park Association's Student and Professional Mentoring Program was developed in order to connect students enrolled in parks, recreation, leisure studies, tourism, sports management, special event planning, and other related fields, with professionals in the field. The communication that will take place between the student and the assigned professional will provide broad exposure to the variety of job opportunities available in the field.
There are two goals of the program. One goal is to create an interest and better understanding of the many values and opportunities in a community parks and recreation department as a life time career opportunity. The second goal of the program is to introduce the students to Florida Recreation and Park Association, increase the number of student members, and ultimately increase the number of future professional members. If you would like more information about the Mentoring Program, check out the brochure, and to enroll, download the form and return it to the FRPA office.
I really enjoy being a part of the FRPA Mentorship Program- Sheryl Ryan has been an excellent resource for me. She has written me a recommendation letter for internship and job opportunities, she gave me pointers about my resume and cover letter, and I have also used her in conjunction with my internship last fall at the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce as a community resource from the Recreation Department. In addition, I have been a resource for her by answering questions that other students have about FRPA and how to become involved.
