Background Checks and Fingerprinting of Volunteer Coaches

These are the agencies that Florida Recreation and Park Association know are doing background checks and fingerprinting of volunteer coaches.

  • Brevard County requires local and FDLE background check.
  • City of Altamonte Springs requires criminal history and background checks
  • City of Apopka requires background checks
  • City of Aventura requires background check and coaches training
  • City of Boynton Beach - requires fingerprinting and national criminal history check, and NYSCA coaches training
  • City of Boynton Beach requires background check and fingerprinting
  • City of Clearwater requires local background checks
  • City of Clearwater requires local law enforcement background checks on coaches in city run programs.
  • City of Coconut Creek has "Youth Sports Organization Guidelines" effective 7/1/01. For volunteer run leagues, a criminal history background check and driver's license check is required. Effective 7/1/01, the volunteer league must process backgrounds on all coaches. NAYS PAYS program is administered.
  • City of Coral Gables requires background, fingerprinting and TB tests
  • City of Debary requires background checks and coach's training
  • City of Delray Beach "Rocks" Tackle Football requires a criminal history and NYSCA Coach's training
  • City of Delray Beach National Little League Baseball requires FDLE background check and FBI background check
  • City of Delray Beach Soccer Club requires background checks and Florida Youth Soccer Association training
  • City of Delray Beach Youth Basketball requires a criminal history check and NYSCA coach's training.
  • City of Fort Meade - requires NYSCA coaches training
  • City of Ft. Lauderdale requires background through the local police department
  • City of Gainesville - requires NYSCA coaches training and background checks
  • City of Greenacres requires background checks
  • City of Hialeah - requires fingerprinting, background checks and NYSCA coaches training
  • City of Holly Hill requires coaches to be NYSCA certified and will being background checks beginning in the Fall. Parents must sign a code of conduct.
  • City of Hollywood requires complete background checks on all volunteers.
  • City of Jacksonville requires background checks.
  • City of Kissimmee requires background, fingerprint and drug testing
  • City of Lakeland - on programs run by the City - requires background checks and drug testing
  • City of Miami Beach requires background investigation for youth athletic coaches.
  • City of North Lauderdale requires background checks beginning in fall 2001
  • City of North Miami requires NYSCA coach's certification for city employed coaches
  • City of Ocoee Little League Baseball requires a background check.
  • City of Orlando requires background checks, fingerprinting and coach's training
  • City of Pompano Beach requires FDLE criminal history checks for all coaches and NYSCA certification for Youth Tackle Football.
  • City of Port St. Lucie requires background checks and fingerprinting
  • City of South Daytona - has a conduct code and requires an affidavit of moral character
  • City of Stuart - requires NYSCA coaches training
  • City of Temple Terrace - requires background checks on volunteer coaches
  • City of West Palm Beach requires background checks, fingerprinting and coaches training
  • City of Winter Haven, athletic department does require coaches to attend a coaches training seminar for youth sports. The city does not require background checks and fingerprinting.
  • Collier County will begin requiring background checks in October 2001
  • Department of the Navy requires local background checks, state review and National checks.
  • Hillsborough County requires fingerprint and background checks
  • Indian Trail Improvement District requires background checks
  • Largo requires coaches training
  • Leon County requires coaches training, and background checks on all volunteer coaches and assistant coaches.
  • Manatee County - requires background checks not fingerprinting, and requires coaches training
  • Martin County requires national background screening, fingerprinting, training for Coaches and parent/coach/board member signatures on a Code of Ethics sponsored by Character Counts program of Martin County.
  • Miami Dade County requires background checks and has established a program "Programming Partnerships" that sets standards for coaches
  • North East & South West Little League Programs (Broward County)~ require criminal background checks
  • Orange County requires background checks and fingerprinting
  • Polk County requires NYSCA coaches training
  • Soccer Club for the City of Indian Harbour Beach requires background checks on their coaches
  • St. Cloud - background checks, fingerprint checks and drug testing for program they run
  • St. Cloud Aquatics - background checks and coaches training
  • St. Cloud Soccer Club - background checks and coaches training
  • St.Lucie County requires background checks for volunteers, coaches and umpires.
  • Suwannee County runs a local background check on all of our coaches and have them go through a Coaches training.
  • Temple Terrace do a statewide background checks on a yearly basis for our volunteer coaches.
  • The Village of North Palm Beach Recreation Dept. requires background checks with FDLE on all volunteer coaches in our youth programs.
  • The Village of Wellington Recreation Dept. volunteer coaches are required to complete the screening through VECH program.
  • Town of Jupiter requires finger printing and background checks, as well as training for coaches and parents.
  • Town of Lantana - background checks, and training for parents, coaches and league administrators
