The Florida Recreation and Park Association Foundation is committed to support the professional development and education of leisure professionals, students and citizen advocates.

Education
To heighten public awareness of recreation and parks as critical quality of life services and avenues to build stronger communities.

To work in conjunction with State Universities and Junior Colleges to develop outstanding curriculums for future professionals and to provide professional leadership and communication with the students to enhance their understanding of the rewarding career opportunities in this field.

To assist in the development of youth through providing grant funds to local parks and recreation agencies. These grants are for youth development training programs and are awarded annually. To download the 2005 Youth Development Grant Application, click here.

Professional & Student Development
To provide grants to professionals, and scholarships to students to enhance their knowledge and expertise in the Recreation and Parks profession. Over thirty scholarships have been granted since the Foundation's creation. More information about Grants and Scholarships is available through the Foundation.

Research
To fund research on park trends and issues such as leisure's role in health maintenance and in preventing juvenile crime, gang involvement and drug use.

Advocacy
To increase the active involvement of citizens in the parks and recreation movement. Training sessions are provided at the FRPA Annual Conference and will be provided through the FRPA Region Meetings throughout the coming year.

Information Sharing
To provide assistance and information to government and non-profit organizations regarding Recreation and Parks research, issues and grants.

Planning for Our Future
An Endowment exists to continue to fund the work of the Foundation. Each year a portion of donations received are placed in the Endowment. It is intended the interest from the Endowment will be used for scholarships and research. Accept our challenge to "Change" the Future of Our Profession and Reach Out to our Students and Young People.

The FRPA Foundation Trustees have been working towards developing a new FORUM called BEST PRACTICES... it would combine practitioners, educators, students and citizens in a day-long workshop that would identify best practices within the parks and recreation industry. The goal would be to share these industry practices statewide in order to assist in raising the bar for park and recreation delivery systems, through enhanced technology, efficiency, policy, practice or other innovative techniques. For more information on this developing program, please contact Foundation President, Julia Recker by email, or by phone (407) 343-7173.

Contribute today, and be a part of meeting the challenge.
