As Vice President of Advocacy for the Florida Recreation and Park Association, I challenge each of you to refocus to promote our profession through your own advocacy efforts. As members of this Association, we know the importance of the quality of life in our communities. By creating memories and preserving and managing our environment, we have a positive influence on the health of our residents as well as the leadership skills and self-worth of our youth. We must be the ones who market ourselves and our worth to our Local, State and Federal leaders as well as to our constituents back home. Additionally, we must work with our Colleges and Universities to build relationships to aide them in providing education of our profession to the students. This tie keeps the profession well nourished with innovation and funding to provide the services our communities deserve.
Purpose
The focus of the Advocacy branch of FRPA is working on behalf of the parks, recreation and leisure services profession to highlight our role in the quality of life of all people and assist with marketing the profession. This is done through the following activities: working with the FRPA Executive Office on legislative issues and activities, developing programs to engage students who are interested in the parks, recreation and leisure services field, marketing the profession to people outside of the field and to advance national initiatives, from the National Recreation and Park Association, within the state.
