Executive Director's Message
The Florida Recreation and Park Association is one of the most well established and recognized Associations in Tallahassee in a number of differing operational communities. Founded in 1942, the Association has evolved from an entirely volunteer driven organization focused on very local issues, to its current streamlined volunteer policy Board working in concert with its full time staff headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida.
The world of technology has allowed us to continue to function as an efficient organization that has as its primary mission, meeting the needs of its members. That is forefront in any decision that the leadership team makes: does the decision improve service delivery, does it better serve the members, and does it continue to expand on the level of quality that we use as our benchmark of success. The membership remains involved in every step of our progression.
Through regional meetings which provide education appropriate to our five sections, we meet the needs for local and technical networking and information sharing. Our Annual Conference is the largest of the state park and recreation associations in the southeast, and one of the most successful in the country.
Leaders from Florida serve in many capacities at the national level with the National Recreation and Park Association, continuing to represent the needs of our members at the national front. Florida currently has representation on NRPA's Board of Trustees, Southern Region Council, Council of State Executive Directors, Council of State Affiliate Presidents, the Congress Program Committee, the National Society of Park and Recreation Educators, the National Society of Park Resources, the American Park and Recreation Society, the Ethnic Minority and Aquatics Branches of NRPA. We are well represented and well recognized at this level.
We continue to assess the needs of our members so that we can assure the benefits of membership remain relative to your needs, and the intangible benefits that result from networking and communicating with fellow members continue to be delivered to you in the manner you prefer.
Our commitment to you is that we will work as a team to assure that your needs are met. Exceeding your expectations is our goal. Being ahead of the pack is our challenge and with your help we can continue to be the leading Association. We appreciate the investment of energy, creativity and finances that you bring to your Association. You are a valued member of this organization and we sincerely hope that when the opportunity arrives for you to become more involved, you will see the inherent benefit that can be yours.
